Karunya Plus Prize Structure & Ticket Price

At the top is a single first prize, awarded to one full ticket number in one series. Below it sit second and third prizes, then a run of lower tiers that pay progressively smaller amounts to progressively more tickets. The lowest tiers typically account for the vast majority of winning tickets in any given draw.

That shape matters for expectations. A ticket holder is far more likely to touch a lower tier than the top prize, and understanding the ladder is a healthier way to read the draw than fixating on the headline. It is still a game of chance, and nothing about knowing the structure changes the odds of any individual ticket.

If your number matches the first prize but your series letter is different, you are usually looking at a consolation prize rather than the top prize. That is by design: the consolation tier exists precisely to reward the same number in the other series. It also means 'my number came up' is never the whole story until you have checked the letter.

Lower tiers work differently again. Kerala commonly decides them on the last four digits of the ticket number, across all series, which is why a single lower-tier line on the result sheet can produce a lot of winners. Read the tier heading before you decide what you are holding.

That has a practical consequence worth knowing: if someone is selling a Karunya Plus ticket above the printed face value, something is wrong. The price on the ticket is the price. Agent commission is a departmental arrangement, not a surcharge you are supposed to pay on top.

We do not publish the current face value here, for the same reason we do not publish prize amounts - the department revises pricing over time and a stale number republished on a blog misleads more people than it helps. Prize values, series counts and ticket pricing are department decisions that change. A figure that was right two revisions ago will still rank on search, still look authoritative, and still be wrong - and the person it misleads is the ticket holder standing in front of an agent. The official gazette result for the specific draw is the only figure worth acting on.

Smaller prizes are generally encashed through an authorised agent or seller, while larger prizes go through a bank or the district lottery office with the original ticket and identity documents. There is a claim deadline counted from the draw date, and there is tax deducted at source above a threshold set in the Income-tax Act. One rule holds at every tier: you never pay a fee to receive a prize. If a message asks for money before releasing a win, that is an advance-fee scam, not a claim process.
